Quilt West

Some views of the quilt show.

Look at the Quilt West page to see a selection of my favourite quilts....

The community quilts table - members of WAQ make a huge number of quilts each year that are donated to Perth based charities.

Quilt West 2012

End of the Western Australian Quilter's Association Show yesterday.
Amazing that a group of women (and a few husbands) were able to take down all the quilts plus stands, poles etc and clear the entire hall in just 1 hour! Some organisation!

Quilt West Show

Am so happy to have had success at the QUILT WEST SHOW today.
It was a real shock as I had no idea I had won until my name came up at the prize giving ceremony!
There were so many beautiful quilts on show that it is a real honour to have won.
I'm also glad to keep the flag flying for all those hand quilters out there .....

Went back to finish the lap quilt after a frustrating day and was determined to beat it. Got used to the Pfaff presser lever in the end (and also not having a needle up or down option!) and after putting on the binding it looked a bit better.
Now I need to go through all my UFOs that I can't be bothered to hand quilt.....

Pfaff Nightmares!

Does anyone have the same problem with the Pfaff sewing machine presser foot lever? It has a special position for free motion quilting which is halfway between raised and fully down for straight stitching. It's really hard to tell the difference and I can't tell you the number of times I've set off free motion quilting with the foot up - result is a spaghetti mess of thread on the back and lots of unpicking.. by the end I'm totally tense and frazzled and the quilting is dreadful. (Hand quilting is so relaxing in comparison!)
But - I will keep trying!

Free Motion Quilting

Well, I've been putting this off for years - after only ever doing hand quilting on all my projects I realised that I could make more quilts in a year if I had a go at machine quilting. I've always like the densely quilted and decorative look of free motion quilts at the shows but was hesitant about actually taking the first step.

These samples are the best results yet and I know I've got a way to go (very jerky) but I'm quite pleased at the result for a first real attempt.

This is the practice run for actually quilting the jelly roll quilt......

Good old Leah Day and her videos! I've also discovered Patsy Thompson tutorials which are really helpful. (See the links for both in 'My Favourite Sites)

Quilt West

Drop off for the Quilt West Show today. It's always a nerve-racking experience to send your beloved quilt to be picked over by strangers! The best part is seeing it hanging amongst all the other entries and listening to the reactions (good and bad) from the visitors.. now I'm always careful about what I say in front of a quilt in case the maker is nearby!

Jelly Roll Quilt

Decided to use up a jelly roll of batik fabrics that has been sitting in my fabric drawer for years. I was inspired after seeing a tutorial by the Missouri star quilt company and spent a happy guilt free (almost) day putting it together. Not my usual style but I enjoyed the clever way of putting the strips together and think I'll have a go at quilting it on the machine.

Ricky Tims Seminar

Have just bought tickets for Ricky Tims' two day seminar in Perth later this year.
I'm very excited to see him as his quilts are amazing! Hopefully some of his colour genius will rub off on me!

Vote now!

I've just entered the weekly 'Quilting Blogger's' Quilt Contest for the first time. If you would like to see the quilts and vote (not necessarily for mine!) click on the logo on the side bar to get to the site. I've entered my  'Let it Snow' quilt.

Have spent the best part of the day quilting half the length of a border on my crazy garden quilt only to decide that it is all wrong. So now I'm faced with unpicking it all and starting again........
The cable quilting is going to be unpicked and I've started the overlocking circles which is much better.
