I had a go at making a landscape applique to see if the portrait technique works for other types of images.
I still need to stitch and thread-draw to make it come alive and to improve the water (I plan to straight line quilt across all the water appliques to make them more subtle). I found that I may not need to simplify the image digitally for a landscape as I do for portraits.
It's not one of my best works but it was a useful experience.
The image is a photo that my son Mark took in the lake District a few years ago for a photography course he was taking. I've always loved the series of photos he took and knew I could use one them as inspiration for a quilt.
Here are the steps in getting it onto fabric.
